Stress, fear and anxiety can get pretty overwhelming during this difficult time.
Here are 5 healthy ways to cope with stress:
#1 Take care of your body.
- Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate
- Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals
- Exercise regularly
- Get plenty of sleep
- Avoid excessive alcohol use and drugs
#2 Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including those on social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting.
#3 Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy. How about listening to (or playing) music?
#4 Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling. Maybe social distancing makes you feel isolated and lonely but this doesn’t mean that you can’t connect safely.
#5 Take care of your mental health. Get immediate help in a crisis. The Befrienders KL, a non-profit organization offers free and confidential emotional support every day to those feeling depressed, distressed or suicidal.
