Health Supplement can be in the form of capsules, tablets, powder, or liquids EXCEPT as injections or eye drops.
Are health supplements monitored by MOH?
The answer is yes.
National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) that was established in 1978, under MOH regulates the registration, licensing, surveillance, quality control, and also Good Manufacturing Practice of supplements in Malaysia.
NPRA monitors all health supplements in the market to ensure their safety and quality.
Malaysian consumers are considered fortunate, since many countries place little emphasis on monitoring health supplements compared to Malaysia.
All health supplements sold in Malaysia are required to be registered and approved by MOH.
Each approval is valid only for a period of five years, after which the registration status must be renewed.
Known as “post-marketing surveillance”, the Centre of Quality Control of NPRA analyses health supplements in the market from time to time during the five-year registration validity of the supplements via random sampling.
You should choose health supplements registered with MOH.
Every MOH registered health supplement has two key features.
#1 MAL registration number
For example as shown above, the MAL registration number starts with the letters MAL followed by eight digits ending with the letter NC. The letter “N” at the end of the MAL registration number signifies the type of product, which in this case stands for “supplements”. The letter “C” signifies the administrative code, which in this case stands for “contract manufactured”.
#2 “MOH Hologram” sticker on the packaging
This hologram sticker is considered a safety feature for all MOH registered health products as it is highly sophisticated and cannot be replicated.
